Biomechanical Assessment / Gait Analysis
Musculoskeletal TreatmentsBIOMECHANICAL and GAIT observation are integral within our initial musculoskeletal appointments, feeding into an overall impression of those things which may be contributing to the concern you have. These will include, where required: noting how you walk, the way your foot and low limb works as you walk, relevant muscle strength testing, alignment of various parts of your low limb, testing of non-weightbearing biomechanical motions of your foot and ankle as well their quality and range of movement as you walk. In addition, we will also consider if the fascial tissue of your body, which influence how muscles work, is a further significant contributor.
SYMPTOMS that indicate your gait might be contributing to your discomfort can include persistent ankle niggles or pain in walking or running. Pain in the big toe joint as you walk over it, numbness and tingling in your toes, heel pain, feeling less stable on your feet and many more.
AIM of such an assessment is to determine both non-weightbearing and weightbearing contributors to your discomforts and consider how these may be improved, for example footwear change, strengthening exercise, inserts, improving mobility of the foot, improving how fascial tissue may work.
ALL the above run throughout our usual Musculoskeletal assessment and treatment. Combined, the clues from the above provide pertinent information for you and ourselves, to guide you through treatment options. These options also include not having any treatment.
